Abstract As a typical kind of culture-experience tourism, folklore tourism has become a new fashion in tourist consumption. As a foundation of folk culture, the screening of the characteristic spaces in folk culture-intensive areas is a key issue to the guidence of the folklore tourism's healthy development. So far, experts haven't reached consensus on the principle, standard and value of the folk cultures, which not only have caused various problems during the development of the folk culture, but also affected the image of these areas. All these mentioned above stand in the way of the scientific development of folklore tourism. Based on space-related theories and previous researches of folklore tourism resources in Shaanxi Province from 2005, this article takes Shaanxi Province as an example, and puts forward the principles and standards for the screening of folk cultural spaces and different types of historical streets on the backgound of folk cultures, and looks forward to the responses from the academic circles. In the authors' opinion, there are six principles in the screening of folk culture spaces-the principle of the three key elements in the structure of folk cultural spaces, the principle of the space utility in line with the requirements of space layout, the principle of complying with the guidence of "Community Tourism" theory, the theory of holding integrity of the folk cultural space scenes, the principle of following the law of "latitude areas" and "vertical division", and the principle of following the division of Chinese cultural circle as well as the sub-cultural circle. Combining the research of the Shaanxi folk tourism resources and these principles, the authors put forward eight standards in the screening of the folk culture spaces, which are, authenticity, regionalism, integrity, compatibility, integration, permereability, breadth and concentration. These standards can prevent blind development of folk culture spaces effectively.
