Abstract The concept of cultural awareness was defined clearly by Mr.Fei Xiaotong in 1997 at "the second session of the social and cultural anthropology advanced seminar" which was sponsored by the Sociology of Human Institute of Peking University. It means that people who living in a certain culture have self-knowledge on their culture, understand its origin, formation process, characteristics and trends. In order to strengthen the autonomy of cultural transformation, achieve the autonomous status of adapting to the new environment and cultural choice.Cultural awareness is not only a conscious for the cultural forms of objective existence, but for people themselves as the cultural subjects. From the perspective of cultural awareness, the paper probes into the generativemechanism of cultural awareness and interaction between cultural self-consciousness of cultural subjects and ecological protection. In questionnaire survey,we random distribute 450questionnaires in Hongcun,Xidi and Yixian county and receive 446 questionnaires, among which 418 are valid.Resident's age, educational level and work experience in tourism have significant impact on cultural self-consciousness.All of these suggest that tourism can not only convey the Huizhou culture to the tourist as a cultural intermediary, but also enhance the resident's perception of Huizhou cultural ecology. Therefore, the culture awareness of residents is formed and strengthened under the functions of both inside and outside aspects.
