Chinese geographers tend to consider SCI to be the most authoritative and scientific valuation standard to geographic treatises. But on the other hand, another idea also is carried through that the association publications should be the most important stage to exhibit the geographic treatises. In many disciplines of natural science, the association publications have been embodied into SCI. In geography, however, most of the association publications are classified out of SCI. Then, every geographer has to face a question, that how to choose a scientific valuation to the geographic treatises? Geography is different from mathematics, physics, biology and most of other natural science, because much of the geographic studies have to be based on the lo-cal knowledge, local culture, local context, and local geographic phenomena in particular places and times. Usually it is difficult to have a discussion smoothly about a result of geographic research between two geographers which have different geographic knowledge. The fact means, the results of geographic researches are usually evaluated better by the professorial geographic group who have similar geographic knowledge than by the group who have different geographic knowledge or contexts. In order to avoid the incorrect valuation to the geographical treatises, this paper attempts to introduce the main geographical publications including the publications of the geographical societies, the publications of the associations of geographers, and the other academic geographical journals in western countries such as America, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Japan. In conclusion, the paper suggests what kind of scientific valuation can be carried through into Chinese geographical context. That means not only SCI, but also association publications.
