Abstract As one of the traditional tourism cities,Hang Zhou receives more and more tourists,especially in the "Golden weeks".When the tourists and local residents travel or recreate in the same parks around West Lake or other destinations inner the city,they all feel the limitation of the environmental capacity,which results in a conflict between tourists and the citizens.At the same time,ReBAM(Recreational Belt Around Metropolis)around the downtown of Hang Zhou is developing fast these years.Weekend recreation market puts more and more interests in the ReBAM under the distance effect.Facing the situation,this paper discusses the factors which affect recreation choice behaviors,puts forward a Residents' Recreation Choice Action Model,and focuses on the behaviors of the Hang Zhou local residents.Based on a questionnaire survey on Hang Zhou local residents' recreation status,this paper analyzes the characteristics of their recreation choice behaviors and destination preference through econometric approaches.Four hundred and fifty questionnaires were received respectively from six inner districts(Shang Cheng,Xia Cheng,Xi Hu,Gong Shu,Jiang Gan,Bin Jiang) of Hang Zhou during the "May 1st Golden Week" in 2005.Data about destination choice behavior of the respondents in the six districts were collected and dealt with computer-aided techniques.The behavior characteristics and spatial distribution of the citizens' recreation choice are illustrated under different situations and constraints.Residents prefer ReBAM to inner recreation sites in holidays,but residents are more interested in natural resources at weekends;Residents' recreation frequencies show a three-level distribution according to distance;With the limitation of "out and home in one day ",the residents tend to choose the destinations near the gateway in their borough,when the limitation comes to "two days",people's choices appear the "anti-attenuation" phenomenon.Price,transportation and information are the three main aspects that influence people's recreation preference.
