Abstract Along with the rapid developing of tourism and urban modernization, there are a lot of problems appearing in the settings of tourist attractions which are obviously not being coordinated with the advancement of scenic spots or tourist attractions. The status of neglecting the setting of tourist attraction has could not fit the needs of tourists. In this case, the Landscape Ecology is just a kind of important theory to solve the current contradictions. On the basis of above theories of Landscape Ecology and through the case study of Pingyao old city in Shanxi province, it is considered that tourist attraction setting should carry out planning and designing according to two principles:one is maintaining the stability of the big tourist attraction spot consisting of tourist attraction and its setting; the other is taking full advantage of the magnetic field effect of tourist attraction in its setting. The former includes three aspects:combining centralizing with decentralizing, which means natural vegetation spot is scattered in tourist attraction setting during the planning and designing of landscape and tourism service facilities should show the accumulation to a certain extent in space; strengthening connective degree between tourist attraction and its setting in order to make tourists easily perceive the information of tourist attraction; making use of strong diversity to plan and design such scenery that is very different from usual one to accumulate tourists' aesthetic feeling. The latter also includes three aspects:extending the culture and artistic conception of tourist attraction to make tourists feel the characteristics of historical age and regional environment in setting; reflecting regional characteristics that is to say there should be a seat for expressing the regional culture in tourist attraction setting; keeping mutualism to make tourist attraction setting benefit greatly from the coexisting and winning together of many trades and professions.
