Abstract  It is a very complicated problem how to express the health situation of the residents in a region. It is nearly impossible to comprehensively express the health situation related closely with social economy and culture factors and so on in the world of today using a few indicators only. It was tried to choose more indicators, to calculate the health index by these indicators. The health situation of residents in various provinces of China was reflected by these health indexes.
Taking average life expectancy as the core, 55 indicators related closely with health including human life-span, human body height, diseases situation and culture quality of persons, were preliminarily chosen. Through testing the relational degree to the average life expectancy, the indicators those relational degree come up to marked level were chosen, and finally 27 indicators were chosen for the health indicator. After calculating the classificatory indexes of human life-span, human body height, diseases situation and culture quality, the complex health indexes were finally calculated. These health indexes can reflect the health situation in various provinces in China generally.
There are obvious regional differences between these health indexes of various provinces in China. Its general trend is that the health indexes of crowd in the big cities and the coastal areas of the southeast China are higher than those in the west China. It is indicated that the former is in good situation of health, and the contrary, the latter is in poor situation of health.
