Abstract  Regional economic resilience is a hot topic in the field of economic geography and regional economics in recent years. It was used to explain why some regions can actively respond to external shocks and achieve sustainable economic development, others have been experiencing long-lasting economic recession. This paper, based on a review of literature, summarizes the conceptual evolution of resilience: engineering resilience, ecological resilience and evolutionary resilience. This concept has experienced a transition from equilibrium theory to evolution theory. This paper redefines the concept of regional economic resilience. We believe that regional economic resilience is the ability of the system to withstand shocks and avoid breaking away from development trajectory or to achieve sustained economic development through adaptation and recovery after the shock. Regional economic resilience is a continuous evolution process. This article discusses the three theoretical analysis methods of regional economic resilience, reviews the empirical research on the measurement and influencing factors of regional economic resilience and points out the shortcomings of existing research. The article emphasizes the urgent need to strengthen the research of resilience theory to clarify its conceptual connotation. Key words: resilience
