Abstract  The traffic integration is the basis of collaborative development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban system, and a improved structure of transportation network is of great importance to improving the efficiency of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei. Based on the multi-source road data between 1995 and 2030, fractal theory is employed to analyze the spatial pattern and structure characteristics of transportation network in Beijing-TianjinHebei urban system, and further reveal the future evolution. The main results are as below:1) The transportation network of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei shows variances in structure hierarchy. The space filling degree of low-level transportation networks are higher, while the high-level roads still have potential to grow. 2) The spatial distribution of transportation networks take on a self-affinity pattern, but the trend of anisotropy expansion decreases with time. 3) The fractal dimension growth of higher-level roads obey logistic models with exponent more than 1, suggesting that the policy interference has a greater influence than self-organizing power. The main conclusions are as follows:First, the hierarchical structure of transportation network in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei has been unstable, and it has not reached an optimized fractal hierarchy. Second, the self-affinity of road networks is too strong, which is different from the trend of land structure evolution. This is probably related to the developing stage of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban system. Third, due to the urbanization process and the implementation of transportation integration strategy, road networks at all levels are growing towards self-similar and integrative structure.
