Abstract  The change of consumption space is an important perspective to understand the evolution of contemporary rural regional system. Based on the sample survey and field interview data of rural households of Gong'an in Jianghan Plain, we attempt to reveal the spatial evolution and influencing mechanism of rural households' daily consumption in the research area. More specifically, the change of rural households' daily consumption scene is depicted with micro analysis and the spatial evolution of rural households' daily consumption is sketched with macro analysis. Furthermore, a multiple linear regression model is used to examine the influencing factors and mechanism of rural consumption evolution. The case study shows that:1) Microscopically, the consumption location frequency of rural households tends to increase, the consumption location types tend to differentiate, the low-grade commodity consumption tends to diffuse to low-grade shopping place, and high-grade commodity consumption tends to gather to high-grade shopping place. 2) Macroscopically, rural households take towns as their daily consumption centers. It is worth noting that short-distance contraction and long-distance expansion coexist in the spatial evolution of rural households' daily consumption, and the consumption node level shows a trend of extension and stretching. 3) The development of rural households' daily consumption is the result of a comprehensive effect of the intertemporal effect of consumption, the foundation of consumption capacity and the environment of consumption space.
