Abstract The floating population's environment perception of the destination cities could predict their settlement intention. Facing this gap of research, this paper examines the environmental perception of the floating population from three respects, namely their ecological environmental perception, humanistic environmental perception and institutional environmental perception, based on the understanding that the environmental perception is a multi-dimensional concept. The authors establish a comprehensive index system of environmental perception of the floating population, and then uses these indices to analyze the floating population's environmental perception on the above three dimensions, its differences among members of the floating population with different individual and family characteristics, as well as its effects on settlement intention of the floating population into the destination cities, based on the data from a survey conducted in the municipal districts of Fuzhou city in 2014. The results show that:1) There are differences in the floating population's positive environment perception among its three dimensions, with its value on the ecological dimension larger than that on the humanistic dimension, which in turn is larger than that on the institutional dimension. 2) There are significant differences in the positive environmental perception among members of the floating population with different gender, occupational, income, personal and family characteristics and the adaption degree of dialects. 3) High degree of the floating population's positive environmental perception of the destination cities can effectively promote the intention of the floating population to settle down into the cities, when the age, gender, the duration of residence in the destination cities, marital status, income and other factors are controlled.
