| DAILY ACTIVITIES AND COMMUNITY DEPENDENCE OF URBAN RESIDENTS: THE CASE OF SHENZHEN OVERSEAS CHINESE TOWN, CHINA |

Abstract Urban China is facing a continuous socio-spatial restructuring in recent year. Many new types of social-space appeared. Tourism community is the new type social-spaces depending on tourism and real estate development. A sample of size 531, based on 17 daily activities, is collected. Factor analysis is employed to reduce the 17 daily activities to five attributes, namely, distance of low community-based activities (DLCA), frequency of low community-based activities (FLCA), frequency of high community-based activities (FHCA), distance and frequency of work (DFOW) and distance of high community-based activities (DHCA). Based on five different attributes, the t-test and ANOVA test are used to see whether residents with different demographic profiles behave differently or not. The results reveal that female respondents in DLCA are willing to travel to the other communities for shopping, dining and social gatherings than male respondents. It is also detected that respondents' degree of community dependence increases with age but declines with income. Respondents with lower education rely more on the community activities than those with higher education. In addition to these, respondents from a big family also show higher community dependence than other respondents. Those respondents staying longer in the community are using the recreation facilities more often than those new comers. The result implies a statistically significant difference in community dependence among different group of residents.
