Abstract With the improvement of economy open standards, the economic connection and competition between cities is becoming increasingly fierce. Kunming is located in the southwest of China and adjacent Southeast Asian countries. Kunming is the bridge, which connects between China and Southeast Asia. So it is very important to analysis economic connection with Southeast Asian countries. The purpose of this paper is to analyse economic matching between Kunming and surrounding cities by the revised model of the outreach economy and geo-economic relation, then according to the results, putting forward relevant policy suggestions for economic development in Kunming. New indicators are added in the model, and on the basis of results we define a type of "economic ties-geo-economic relationship". The results show that:in China, the matching results between Kunming and surrounding cities are not very satisfactory. But these also highlight that the economic cooperation has a huge space for development in the future. The economic link between Kunming and the largest number of surrounding cities which are studied in this paper are very weak, excluding Qujing and Chuxiong. But these two cities with Kunming are in the same province, and there is a shorter distance between them. To some extent, the result reflects the formation process of Yunnan city circle. The geo-economic relationship shows that there is small difference on the number between complementary cities and competitive cities which is 24 and 16 respectively, but the percentage of uncertain cities is large, we can not ignore.
