Abstract This article illuminates the current situation of exploiting the geography information resources of China and discusses the existing problems. It points out that there are some problems in the traditional utilization of the geography information, such as the information unable to be shared, low speed of transmission, large sum of workloads, high costs for collections, and low rate for the use of the information. We come to a conclusion that in the new era the exploitation of the geography information resources is the construction of the popular geography information products(that is, to construct the geography information resources electronically, orderly and extensively), the improvement of the utilization rate, obtainment, and share of the geography information resources, the construction of the excellent geography information products(that is, to exploit and construct the geography information resources in depth). And we should increase the additional value of the geography information products, promote the role of the geography information resources in the innovation of science and technology, and build the online searching service system based on network for the geography information database. From these, we can put the stress on exploiting intelligent and forecasting resources of the geography information, with improving the innovative mechanism and utilizing ability of the geography information resources and speeding its digitization. The main methods are available in this article for exploiting in depth the geography information resources in our modern information society. We emphasize the ways of exploiting and utilizing the geography information resources of China in recent years, the ways are as follows:①To enhance the adjustment and management of the geography information resources in large scale;②To build the geography information network as soon as possible and enhance the construction of the database for the geography;③To realize the versatility of documental carriers and streng then the time-oriented features of the documents;④To cultivate human resources for geography information and change the functions of services;⑤To lay emphasis on the researches of basic science and applied science.
