Abstract Based on the principles of safety,comfort,harmonies and convenience,the authors put forward the basic framework of evaluating indexes system including physical quality of housing,environmental safety,landscaping plan,public services and soci-cultural environment and make comprehensive evaluation on urban residential quality in Nanjing city by the method of social investigating statistics. The results show the residential quality of Nanjing city is in the developing phase. At last,the authors put forward the optimistic measures and projects of residential quality in aforementioned dwelling areas.
