Abstract  Modern port, the object of study for transport geographers, has been viewed in the broader context of urban and regional development in the western countries since 1940s. In this paper, a review was carried out covering the books and articles written by western geographers on the topic of modern port and urban/regional development. Some comments were made on the literature, too.
