Abstract The 21st century will become the era of knowledge economy. The knowledge-based economy is widespreading and deeply influencing all aspects of social and urban development. Urban Geography will face up to the challenge as well as opportunity of era of knowledge economy. This paper discusses basic features of knowledge economy, analyzes and predicts some trends of urban development in the era of knowledge economy. To adapt itself to the new situations, it is necessary for urban geography to innovate the research theories, contents and methods.
