Abstract The purpose of this paper is to do the theoretical simulation and quantitative analysis on evolutional process of urban blocks flat form based on some Chinese city's data. The result indicates that, the urban blocks plat form showed significant evolution trends under the background of rapid urbanization. Urban block flat form is based on urban spatial form, which principally reflects constructivism enclosure of land use on space. As far as land use is concerned, urban block spatial form is space module group, which is based on the incision of ground traffic system to urban land. Therefore, on the theoretical significance, urban block flat form depends on spatial design of planning makers, while the latter is affected by external environmental factors, such as economic society and urban development, etc. There are principally two types of urban urban space change mode, extroverted urban expansion mode and introverted urban update mode, in either case, the spatial shape of urban blocks tend to increase their spatial scales as well as to reduce the number of blocks. Social force, such as real estate development enterprises, become the leading force of new urban block forming, and leads to build new urban blocks with appearing "super real estate projects"; on the other hand, in the process of urban renewal, city government and real estate enterprise reach a consensus on urban block scale. It is concluded that, in the process of urban expansion or renewal, it should take promoting residents' convenience degree, improving living condition and enhancing slow traffic system efficiency into account and also should consider interrelation between blocks, comprehensive influence of new blocks to whole areas and completing the matching construction of corresponding infrastructures.
