Abstract spatial relationship between employment and residential location is about socio-spatial relationship between urban residents' employment and residential location which is an important research area of urban spatial structure.Those socio-spatial relationships between employment and residential location of urban residents have experienced great change during the system transitional period in Chinese cities.This paper intended to review relative research of spatial relationship between urban residents' employment and residential location in domestic and abroad,and provided useful references for related research and for governments at all levels to formulate relevant policies in domestic.Related research on research school of spatial relationship between employment and residential location,job-housing spatial balance,urban commuting,residential choice and residential spatial differentiation etc.at domestic and abroad has been reviewed in this paper.Obtaining research materials through scientific and rational social survey should be emphasized because of lacking research data at the individual level in domestic research,so the impact factors and formational mechanism of spatial relationship between urban residents' employment and residential location could be analyzed in-depth through relating the spatial relationship between urban residents' employment and residential location to the spatial factors and individuals' socio-economic characteristics,even urban form and spatial structure.At the same time,special groups' spatial relationship between urban residents' employment and residential location,especially floating population,the urban poverty population and public housing dwellers and original danwei community residents etc.should be paid more attention to in relative research area in China.
