Abstract With the acceleration of urbanization,the deterioration of human settlements in cities is more and more common because of agglomeration of population and industry in metropolitan areas.Many scholars focus on the study of urban human settlements suitability,including the concept,content,influencing factors,as well as evaluation methods of it.There are three ways to appraise human settlements,objective,subjective,and a combination of the two.The spatial characteristics of city satisfaction is another research field.Based on a questionnaire answered by 1575 residents in Guangzhou,this paper makes preliminary appraisal on community status using analytic hierarchy process and spatial characteristics using software Surfer 8.0unifies.Five conclusions are draw as follow:(1)Though the construction level is improved very fast,satisfaction is commonly.The urban residential suitability in Guangzhou is at a really fair level.The average scores of the four indexes are different.(2)The attributes of residents affect the satisfaction.(3)Taking into account of these four attributes,residents in city can be divided into four groups.(4) Based on the software Surfer 8.0unifies,the paper finds out some obvious spatial characteristics.Contour line of satisfaction indicates that the more distance to city center the little satisfaction of residents.High-income groups occupy superior geography location,while poor groups cannot help but living edge region.(5)The government is obligated to take into consideration the need of all groups of residents especially the living conditions of disadvantaged groups.
