Abstract This paper aims to provide theoretical viewpoints for the improvement of urbanization quality. Tourism as a kind of motivation plays an important role in the development of urbanization. As a result, to enhance the quality of urbanization is the current focus in tourism research. Based on the analysis of the main problems during the urbanization process of the development zone and the advantages of strong correlation, tremendous drive and high comprehensive benefit in tourism, this paper explores the inherent mechanism that how tourism could improve the quality of urbanization, which is a model with spatial coordination, upgrading industries and strengthening function interacted with each other. This paper provides a case study of Suzhou Industrial Park. The authors analyze the main problems in its urbanization process and put forward solutions. The result shows that there are three main problems in its urbanization process. Firstly, the Suzhou Industrial Park's internal management system is self-sustaining, and it restrains the relation with its surrounding in the term of space and function. As a result, it reforms the spatial structure of "Solitary Island". Secondly, tertiary industry is underdeveloped. The development of industries in Suzhou Industrial Park is unbalanced. The tertiary industry is obviously lagged behind the manufacturing industry. Thirdly, the function of the city is not comprehensive. The Suzhou Industrial Park is lack of the urban public service facilities, and its comprehensive function is wake. The authors point out that the Suzhou Industrial Park is at turning point. It must transform and improve the urban development zone to satisfy the demand of its internal and external environment.
