Abstract Valley economy,as a new mode of mountain development,is playing an important role in gathering and effective linking the space of mountain traffic, villages, population and resources in order to meet the requirements of mountain space optimization development. Mountains spatial development strategy is the overall consideration of spatial layout on valley economy development. Based on the correlation between valley economy development and mountains spatial development strategy, the paper employs the methods of documentation and systematic analysis, studies the spatial development strategy of mountain under the background of valley economy, and proposes the spatial development strategy of "corridor+valley+node" to mountain areas. The authors provide a case study of Mentougou district. They summarize its valley economy development mode as "corridor construction spurs the development of valley economy", in which the authors take G108 and G109 as corridor axis, and 18 key valleys as the grasps for the improvement and optimization of the various types of villages. This is consistent with the proposed spatial development strategy of mountains areas. Traffic lines, the main corridors for the development of valley economy, break the limitation of traditional administrative in space of land use. Valleys are the main front of valley economy development, as well as the best region of mountain development. Villages, the main nodes of mountain development, promote the cluster development of valley economy spontaneously, which fits the principle of further optimization of mountain in spatial. Valley economy development exerts a systematic impact on implementing mountain spatial development strategies by taking the drainage basin as an unit and an overall consideration of ecological development, economic development, social development, cultural training.
