Abstract:In this article, we study the relation of Foreign Direct Investment(FDI) and GDP as well as Expo rt Total Value(EXP) by correlative analysis method, and summarize three spatial economic characteristics of Foreign Direct Investment(FDI). As the basic of our study, some country(or region) is selected as samples for our analysis. In which the inflow of accumulative FDI exceeds US$500 million and outflow of accumulative FDI exceeds US$400 million. The share of sample country's accumulative total FDI inflow in world is over 80% and the share of accumulative total FDI outflow is over 91%. In the meantime, The share of sample country's GDP and export value in world is about 3 4 and 2 3. The data used in the article is obtained from statistics, which include"World Economic Statistics 2000", "Handbook of Statistics 2000(UNCTAD)" and "Chinese Statistic Yearbook", and etc. Our study includes three parts. At first, we study the correlative relations between FDI and GDP of a certain region, and draw conclusion that both FDI inward and FDI outward is high correlative to GDP in a certain region. Secondly, we study the correlative between FDI and export value(EXP), and draw similar conclusion. Thirdly, we study the spatial economic characteristic of FDI invested in Chinese coastal province from every country. Finally, we can draw such conclusion that FDI mainly from developed region and also invest mainly to same one. Moreover the more outward the region is, the more FDI invested is. As the primary study result of Chinese coastal province, FDI always put priority investment to the region that is near each other.
