Abstract：Urban fringe with the dual characteristics of both city and countryside is the most complex and malleable area during the urban and rural development. There are various configurations of it, such as ecological protected area, public green land and esplanade, industrial park, agricultural land, external traffic land, and so on. This paper analyzed that the uppermost performance of the problems in urban fringe area is the deterioration of the regional ecological environment. Based on the example, the development mechanisms are put forward. The first, the unification and harmony of ecology, society and economy should be paid attention to. The second, the over-expanding of the urban land using should be controlled. The third, the diversity of the species in this area should be enriched. The last one, the market and official management should be improved. The authors take the ecological protected area in the urban fringe of Guangzhou City as an example, which usually exist in the rural-urban fringe and have the characteristics of frangibility.
