A CULTURAL AND GEOGRAPHICAL PROBE INTO THE IDEAL LANDSCAPES IN MYTHOLOGY AND RELIGION

Abstract:Mythology and religion are the primitive philosophy and attitudes about the universe, they reflected people's pursue to ideality,and the ideal landscape constitute an important part. Based on the cultural differences, mythology and religion can be divided into three regional types, namely, Chinese, Greek and Hebrew, each one is unique,and so are the ideal landscapes. The thesis explores the types of pattern and structural features of the ideal landscapes of mythology and religious legend. It analyses the profound cultural connotation of the ideal landscapes in different cultural background, indicating that the formation of the ideal landscape originates from the early ecological experience and cultural adaptation of different nationalities, the essential of the ideal landscapes is people's feeling about surroundings,the propriety living space are imagined to be a ideal landscape by strengthen the good side and enhance the lake one. An ideal landscape means a choice and reform of the environments man inhabits. And it is usually influenced by both the natural environment and culture, and the function of the natural environment is hidden and essentials and the function of culture are direct and instinctive. Different cultures express their ideals in landscapes according to the ideal landscape types in culture and religion, and furthermore, based on these ideals, they pose their influences through geographical return and materialization in the reality. By choosing the position,making the symbol of the ideal landscapes and so on, the geographical return of the ideal landscape can be realized. The thesis also discussing the geographical return's immediate significance.
