Abstract:In order to adapt to the need of war and handle some emergencies, armies usually organize training, drilling or take part in some services in field. It is necessary to pitch camp for night so that officers and soldiers can recover energy and physical strength timely. The factors influencing the selection of encampment location are not only complicated, but also highly uncertain. Whether the related people can scientifically and efficiently select a good camping site is very important for accomplishment of their mission and the safety of the officers and soldiers. Although the methods adopted by a great number of units are direct and simple, they mainly depend on experience and field investigation currently, which are much more qualitative, unscientific and perilous. Selecting encampment sites only in accordance with experience and officer's intention run great risks, and it has been proved by several cases of encampment sites damaged suddenly in field at home and abroad. Integrating the merits of the analytic hierarchy process and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation, the writer of this paper first analyzes factors influencing the army's selection of camping sites, using analytic hierarchy process to determine the weight of each influencing factor, using the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method to determine the index of each scheme, and then using fuzzy analytic hierarchy process to build a decision-making model for army encampment selection. Based on this model, the author works out the sequence of importance of each factor relative to the army encampment selection. That is, when implementing tasks outside and having to build camp, the forces should, according to the objective situation of the task area, gather the information including topography, geology, hydrology, climate, customs, types of resources, occurrence of force majeure as well as the traffic conditions of the regions involved. In consideration of the nature of the ongoing task force, the number of troops dispatched and the expected duration, the writer makes a specific, scientific and comprehensive analysis of them and then points out the specific location of camps, to ensure the smooth completion of the tasks. Finally the validity of the model is proved by real examples.
