Abstract：Regional economic geography science is one of the most attached subjects of geography sciences in China. Therefore, the paper discussed the course of the development of the subject in geography of former Soviet Union and in west countries. One point must be mentioned is, since China improve its "reform and opening-up to the world" and the GDP growth of the national economy and the local economy of every class(provinces, cities and counties), the local economy, namely the economy of the provincial as the major, has played a very important role in the national economy. Means, the focus of the economic system reform, moving from countryside to cities, caused the quick development of city-centers of every class regions. The growth of the centers means the growth and the ripeness of the local economies and the regions. But, it was very difficult to make balance between the regional development. The regions in difference, the regions in un-equality, and the several differential task be faced with every region desired to develop, We can say, no more other country has such more and complicated regional stories in China. And exactly, the such more and complicated regions require the quick development of regional economic geography science. But we can not face the poor development of the science theory. Paper reviewed the progress of this development, looked back the former Soviet Regional Economic Geography Science and the related sciences in the West in the first half of preceding century. Reviewed the sciences work of regional geography study(foreign countries and the regions of China) as the origin of the science. Showed the science works published in recent 15 years. Pointed out, that the theory of territorial division of the labor, the movement of the economic territories and the regionalization of the economy of China are the theory base of the science. When we have moved into 21st century, the information century and the digital century, we can study regions in an "absent" fashion and can get much more information than before. The digital region becomes a new item of the science. In view of the paper, the more and more of the development of local economy in China, the more development of the regional economic geography science. With the result paper referred to the trend of the science, stressed the fashion of overlapping work and the trans-science study, the overlapping work with economy sciences.
