Abstract This paper introduces the connotation of social networks, and expounds what urban renewal effect on social networks. In order to find an effective way of urban renewal, which can protect and develop the social networks, it briefly reviews the process of community architecture and gradual small-scale renewal. Subsequently the paper puts forward to use the interaction and cooperation between planner and residents for reference. Finally, the author made a case-study of the urban renewal in Xuyi, and analyzed the feasibility of protecting and developing the social networks.
