Abstract In recent 20 years, the central region in China has developed much slower than the east, which was called by some scholars as "sink of the central region". Influence on regional development of network was studied in this paper in the first. It makes the engines of regional development transfer from resources, capital to talents, knowledge and technology, the spatial organization from local to global. It makes the basis of decision from local information to global information and the competition from exclusive to double-winning. It also makes the regional spatial structure flexible and more complicated. High-grade center of management, service and R&D, manufactural center of batched job processing, flexible object-oriented production are the main modes of regional production in network era. Integration of global, regional and local network and combination of vertical and horizontal are the main regional spatial connection modes. The opportunities and threats for central region in this new era have been studied. The difference in traditional network between the central 6 provinces and coastal Guangdong province in the aspect of transportation and post potential capacity and actual flux is obvious. The disparity in modern network between them in the aspect of tele-communication was examined in detail. The difference in modern network is much greater than that in traditional network. In this new era, for the rising of central region, we must attach importance to the following strategies:re-realizing that resource superiority is not equal to economic superiority, developing selectively certain high-technology industry, paying attention to cultivating outstanding industry, raising scale profit, improving spatial structure of regional development, innovating regional system, setting up several modern logistics centers, carrying out talent project, reinforcing the construction of transportation, communication and information industry.
