Abstract 1.This paper discusses the relationship between the basic tradition of study in geography and the modernization of geography.
2.The reasons of slow development of geosraphy have been examined with a historical eye.
3.The hope that casting off the backwardness of geography lies in the developmental direc tion of geographic syntnesis.This paper discussed mainly the Prof.Qian Xuesen's theory and methor on geographic synthesis.
