Abstract This paper discusses two cases studies on the mailordering (teleshopping). It could exert a decisive impact on the existing retail hierarchy-supplement and substitution. The demographic and social-economic characteristics of the population determine the forms of their shopping behaviors. We outline regional planning issues that could have an impact on the spatial diffusion of teleservices and on teleshopping in particular, and reveal how this type of retailing could promote well-being in peripheral areas.
