STUDY ON THE URBAN STRUCTURE EVOLUTION OF CITY CLUSTERS IN HENAN PROVINCE DURING THE ECONOMIC TRANSIT PERIOD

Abstract  During the Economic Transit Period, the urbanization level in city clusters of Henan province has been advanced step by step. So far, this area has formed a relatively intact urban system consisting of large, middle and small cities in it. And the size structure of the cities & towns in city clusters of Henan province has been changing profoundly.
After comparing the data of the number and size of cities & towns in different scales, we found that during the last two decades, the number of the large cities and the metropolitans has increased and their size has expanded, however, both the number and size of the middle cities have decreased obviously, and the number of the small cities hasn't changed, the size of them has increased in City clusters of Henan province. This paper have analysis the size distribution of cities & towns in City clusters of Henan province during the economic transit period, then concluded the evolution characteristics and the problems.Finally, this paper put forward three countermeasures to optimize the size distribution of the cities & towns in City clusters of Henan province.
