ANALYSIS OF THE HUMAN GEOGRAPHY RESEARCH TREND IN NEW ECONOMY ERA

Abstract  In the context of new economy, the core elements of human geography research, such as human, land, place and region, have had new meanings, the new research trends have also appeared, and the research fields of human geography have been greatly broadened in emerging topics and research methods. Consequently, there have some new research trends in the man-land relationship, sustainable development, location theory and the regional issues. It is observed that the comprehensive research methodologies and multidisciplinary approaches have been emphasized and the system of man-land relationship is still the central topic in human geography research. The author of the paper, first, elaborates some topics that contemporary human geography mainly focuses on, and then argues that the theory of sustainable development is deepened in terms of the self-organizational structure, the operating mechanism and the optimizing objectives in this system are involved. Moreover, the human geographers pay more attention to issues such as the function and upgrading of the region in the process of the global reconstruction, the new international division of labors, the cluster economy and the regional localization, the impact of globalization in urban and region, the imbalances of economic development, the reconstructing of regional spatial structure, as well as transformation of regional development model on the context of globalization. In the context of the new economy, comprehensive research methodology is widely applied in regional studies, covering national land policies, environmental protection, rational usage of resources, and especially the improvement of human life quality. Also, the human geography studies in the new economic era also emphasize the social geography, cultural geography and relational geography as well as the multidisciplinary integration. Finally, the author points out the clear trend of the research on social and cultural turn and the new research approaches of human geography researches and actor network theory based on the new economy are also discussed.
