Abstract County economy is open and characteristic economy system which has county town as centre, small towns as links, village as hinterland.Dividing types of county economy and analyzing its temporal and spatial evolution is an important basis for summarizing models of county economic development and making policy.By adopting the method of coefficient of module ratio, this paper divide county economic development into different levels and judge the leading industry types by calculating the sum of mean and standard deviation of ratio of different industries to total output value.By calculating these data, types of county economy can be ascertained. This paper analyzes evolutional characteristics of county economy in Ningxia from1994 to 2009 by adopting the method above. It shows that county economy has rapidly developed to a great extent but county development disparities have been expanding also in Ningxia since 1990s.The four counties in Central and Southern Ningxia including in Haiyuan county,Xiji county,Longde county,Jinyuan county have same development tract. They changed from type of less developed agricultural leading to less developed commercial leading. Now they are still poor areas. The other three counties in Central and Southern Ningxia including in Yanchi county,Tongxin county,Pengyang county have same development model. They are poor areas also but have mineral resources to mine.So their types of county economy are less developed industry leading. The three county including Litong district,Shapotou district,Yuanzhou district have same development characteristics although their degree of development are different. They would have not characteristics of county economy and became region economy center and have stronger assemble and diffuse function.Summarizing those development tracts can provide regulation and making policy basis for province and county government.
