Abstract  Based on statistical data of tourism development in Anhui province from 1995 to 2011, the present paper analyzes such aspects as tourism income, the total number of tourists per year, tourism consumption and elements of tourism industry, and summarizes elements for the development of tourism economy in Anhui province. The research shows, firstly, the total tourism income of Anhui province grows by leaps and bounds while its volatility is obvious, especially in inbound tourism, greatly influenced by natural, economic, social and other factors. Internationalization of tourism is yet to be improved for the rigid income (food, housing, transportation, travel) accounts for a high proportion, compared with the low proportion of soft income (shopping, entertainment) in tourism income. Secondly, the number of tourism trips generally follows the trend of tourism income, showing a rapid increase. The total number of inbound tourism trips is more likely to volatile than that of domestic tourism trips, taking up only about 1% of the total received visitors. And it once again proves that internationalization of tourism needs to be further improved. Thirdly, viewed from the perspective of contribution rate or pulling rate, domestic tourism income has an absolutely greater influence on GPP of Anhui Porvince the tourism foreign exchange earnings does. Fourthly, it also shows the total income of tourism is elastically related to the number of hotel beds and travel agencies. Finally, fixed assets investment, fiscal revenue and the tertiary industry output rank the first three among the influence of ten main factors on the total tourism income of Anhui province.
