Abstract The current innovation activities continuously show dual trends of spatial agglomeration and global diffusion, innovation network is the overall reflection of enterprise innovation at geography space and strategic relationships levels. From economic geographical perspective, this paper reviewed and analyzed the foreign literature of innovation network specifically focused on three different levels including alliance innovation network at corporate level, cluster innovation network at industrial level and symbiotic innovative network at regional level. At corporate level, this paper emphasized the core position of enterprise in network, and how to built innovation network through strategic alliance; At industrial level, it emphasized industrial cluster elements have impacts on innovation network, and it is more inclined to built integrated innovation network based on industrial boundary; At regional level, this paper proposed symbiotic innovation network across industrial boundaries based on the concept of symbiosis and ecological thinking. The future research should focus on the co-evolution of innovation networks at three levels of corporation, industry and region, break the spatial characteristics and geography pattern of traditional regional innovation networks, and discuss how to build a hierarchical, cooperative and open interactive tridimensional innovation network. Finally, it was proposed that the future research should focus on its collaborative evolution at three levels, take modern ecological concepts such as eco constraints, sustainable development, low carbon emissions into innovation network research, break the spatial characteristics and geographic pattern of traditional regional innovation networks, achieve mutual coordination between corporation, industry and region, and discuss how to build a hierarchical, collaborative and open interactive regional eco-symbiotic innovation network.
