Abstract The connection between Traffic &Transportation and Development has always been the traditional research field in the Geography of Traffic and Transportation in China. Currently, this field centers the following aspects: Traffic &Transportation and Economical Development; Traffic &Transportation and Regional Development; Geography of Travel & Tourism and the Development of Traffic & Transportation per se. The traffic channel plays a key role in all regional social economy factors and it closely connects all cities within the region, forming an industrial zone structured by industries, population, resources, cities and towns, etc which was increasingly aroused the attention of geographers in China. Many scholars have successfully demonstrated the close connection between Railway Transportation and Economical Development with the example of a specific railway network. But few have really done the research on the whole structure of regional multi-traffic channels combining the actual means of transportation, especially, in the New Northeast Economy Zone, spreading from east Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, including Hulunbeier City, the league Administrative Division of Xing'an, Tongliao city, Chifeng city, Xilinguole Division, to Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang Provinces. This research is still at its initial step. With the implementation of "Economy boost-plan in the Northeast", there are more and more regional communications between East Inner Mongolia area and the three provinces in Northeast. Hence the increasing need for an integrated well-functioned traffic & transportation system from both parties.
By analzing the present spatial structure and features of inter-regional transportation channel, the authors point out the shortcoming faced by the above-mentioned zone, and put forward the suggestion that 6 traffic channels and 3 main traffic routes which will be the "framework" and "meshwork" of the whole structure should be built.Meanwhile, the authors beleave that more channel constructions should be constructed to improve the gas, coal as well as other chemical products' transportation, and the multi-means transportation should be used to promote a harmonious development of regional economy.
