Abstract China has witnessed unprecedented urbanization over the past decades. With the rapid increase of the number and influence of floating population in China, it is urgent to understand the spatial characteristics of China's floating population. Since the reform and opening up, the migration of floating population from rural to urban area, which rebuilds China's urban size system, is being mirrored in China. And there was a large gap of floating population among urban and rural. The rapid expansion of urban population has been dominated by the floating population from rural areas, of which the spatiotemporal patterns, driving forces, and multidimensional effects have been scrutinized and evaluated by voluminous empirical studies. Based on the data of population census and urban and rural construction land extracted from remote sensing images in corresponding years, this paper tries to analyze the temporal and spatial features of the evolution of floating population distribution pattern in Jiangsu Province at the scale of cities and rural areas by using spatial analysis techniques and statistical analysis methods, and reveals the driving mechanism of population flow.
