ROLE PRACTICE AND THE CULTURAL TOURISM SPACE PRODUCTION: A CASE STUDY OF THE DONG HUNDRED-FAMILY FEAST |

Abstract In the context of the spatial turn in social theory since 1970s, social space is increasing regarded as a key dimension and even an alternative paradigm in modern sociology, with a greater emphasis placed on the micro social action in the production of space and the certain products of space production. Focusing on the cultural space, which was first defined as a typical space type by Lefebvre and now has evolved into an exclusive concept in the area of intangible cultural heritage, this study firstly construct the "role-space" theoretical analysis framework which incorporate the role theory, the cultural space theory and Lefebvre's spatial dialectics based on the research synthesis methods. Secondly, taking a typical cultural space——the Dong Hundred-Family Feast of Yanzhai village in Guangxi as an example, this study explores how the role works in the cultural tourism space production and its production and reproduction of the space based on depth interviews and participant observation. Research suggests that the production and construction of the cultural tourism space of Dong Hundred-Family Feast originates from the interaction among role construction, role play and the definition (may be redefinition) of role situation.
