Abstract Based on a brief review of the previous studies on the conception of producer services, which refer to the industries of which products are used by the production sector directly and then by the consumers, and the data available in the yearbooks or the statistic books in China, the producer services here include finance and insurance services, real estate trade, information and consultative services, computer application services and science research and polytechnic services. The dissertation is divided into three levels:nation, developed region and developed megalopolis. Through the analysis on the characteristics of the internal economic structure, it is found that the proportion of production value and employment of the tertiary industry has overcome the primary industry, and the grow th rate of them are even lager than that of the secondary industry since 1995. Taking production value and employment as index, the characteristics of the actual internal producer services involve small scale, low developing level but relatively high status in economic system.According to the above mentions and the correlation analysis on the development of overall economy and producer services, a conclusion can be drawn on the close correlation between the development of producer services and the change of economic structure. Based on the grow th rate of internal producer services and the cumulative circle and causation, the great potential of internal producer services development can be forecasted. Then, focused on the developed region in China, the role played by the producer services in the regional development is illustrated. It is found that the producer services activities in developed region are mainly basic activities, and some vocations in producer services in some developed region have vital effects to regional economy. But there are some vocations in producer services that are in low developing level and have little contribution to regional economy. Guangzhou is taken for example to analyze the status and impact of producer services in a megalopolis. Based on the comparative productivity and proportion of production value and employment of several industries of the tertiary industry in Guangzhou and Guangdong Province, the producer services of the developed megalopolis are significant in a certain ex tent and facilitate the local economic development, but also influence the region greatly.
