Abstract Taking the metropolitan interlocking region in the Yangtze River Delta as a study case, this paper makes analyses on the tourism urbanization in the economy developed regions and the motivation mechanism on this phenomenon. On the basis, it explains the problems of tourism resources and environment protection occurring in the process of tourism urbanization. What's more, it brings forth the basic countermeasures to protect tourism resources and environment from the angles of concept, product rights, policies, planning, management, ecology, science and technology and education.
