Abstract On the basis of time accessibility, the authors use the field intensity model to study the evolution of the city attracting scope of Nanjing Metropolitan Area under the condition of without weight and with weight. The authors select four time sections to study the city attracting scope of Nanjing Metropolitan Area. The four time sections are 1993, 1999, 2005 and 2011. Meanings of the four time sections are as follows respectively. Then on the basis of the evolution of city attracting scope of Nanjing Metropolitan Area, the authors propose the corresponding development proposals about the development of Nanjing Metropolitan Area. Results are shown as follows:①city attraction scope does not coincide with the administrative region. City attracting scope of Wuhu and Zhenjiang has reached the north shore of the Yangtze River. City attracting scope of Nanjing has increased remarkably while city attracting scope of Chaohu has reduced gradually; ②when considering without weights, city attracting scope of Wuhu and Nanjing have increased overall, but city attracting scope of Yangzhou, Zhenjiang, Chaohu, Chuzhou and Maanshan have reduced overall, while city attracting scope of Huaian remains stable; ③ when considering with weights, city attracting scope of Wuhu and Nanjing have increased, but city attracting scope of Zhenjiang, Chaohu and Huaian have reduced, while city attracting scope of Yangzhou, Chuzhou and Maanshan have reduced unsteadily.
