Abstract:Income distribution inequality has always received concerns from all sectors of the society. Recently, income polarization began to receive attention of researchers. The degree of urban-rural income polarization changes with eonomic growth. For the need of comprehensive analysis on the temporal-spatial characteristics of the degree change of urban-rural income polarization in 2000-2009, the authors use the data of 2000 and 2009 and the measure method of degree of income polarization to calculate ER index for all 88 prefecture-level cities firstly. Then the authors divided those 88 cities into four categorical regions based on the results of the degree of urban-rural income polarization in 2000 and 2009 separately, includes serious region, relatively serious region, general region and not obvious region, and divided 88 cities into three categorical regions based on the degree change of urban-rural income polarization, includes accelerated upward trend region, general upward trend region and moderate weakening region. The analyzed results show that the degree of ubran-rural income polarization become more serious in the period of 2000-2009 and there is an accelerated upward trend or general upward trend for the degree change of urban-rural income polarization in most cities. The number of the most serious region is much larger than the number of the general region and not obvious region. Based on the analysis on the spatial distribution of four categorical regions with different degree of polarization in 2000 and 2009 separatively, it is can be seen that there is a significant change about the overall spatial distribution.
