THE PRESENT SITUATION AND REGULATION MODES OFRURAL SETTLEMENTS IN CENTRAL CHINA

Abstract:Rural settlement is one of the important research contents of rural settlement geography. It is result of the interaction between rural residents and natural environment, economic environment and social cultural environment in certain areas. On the basis of eco-social statistical data and survey results in central China,this paper researched the present situation of rural settlements from settlement configuration, settlement space, settlement function, settlement subject, settlement facility and so on. And 50 villages and 529 peasant households were surveyed. The result shows that:the rural settlements are scattered in central China with different scale, density, and configuration; the homestead area of peasant households is big, and many peasanthouseholds have more than one farmhouse, and some have strong concentration living aspiration; production and life style diversification trend began to appear, but "labor export and traditional agriculture" villages are still the main part; more and more rural households carry on several occupations at a time, farmers' incomes are increased gradually, the same with happiness; infrastructure is relatively lagging, and public services still need to improve. Rural settlement regulation mode is the theoretical generalization and practice refine aboutthe general law of some type of rural settlement system or in certain homogeneous area, which is about regulation subject, regulation object, regulation mode and regulation pathway. The study also analysis the difference between them in regulation subject, regulation object, regulation way, regulation mechanism and so on. And villages of different types or in different areas should choose the appropriate rural settlement regulation mode.
