Abstract:This article studies the thought of Klauswitz on military geography acc-ording to the writer's exposition of the relationship between war action and geography.
These thoughts on military geography can be summed up as follows:
First, the author attaches importance to geography's influence and action on war activity, listing geography as one of the five essential factors of strategy.
Second, the author regards geography as basis of strategic conduction and, it determines strategic means ever adopted. He states geographic condition need-ed both for "Strategic retreat to one's hinterland" and for strategic means of "People's war".
Third, the author observed in detail topography of physical geography, reg-arding it as a major topic in the study of military geography.
Forth, the author lays stress on analysing geographic condition of human in the combat area, Such as condition of society, economy, and transportation.
The last but not the least, the author considers the influence of geography on war action very great, but not decisive.
