Abstract：Sahel, West Africa, is the most seriously desertified region in the world, and the international community paid close attention to it. Therefore, a movement for controlling the desertication has been rising on a grand and spectacular scale all over the world. Four models of desertification mechanism are put forward and the structure of the zone's regional man-land relation system, interplay between various elements in it and its characteristics are analysed. Based on them the nature of the desertification in the zone are expounded.
