Abstract:The orderly implementation of rural land consolidation is helpful to realize the protection of arable land red line and urban-rural harmonious development. Estimation of rural residential land consolidation potential is needed for the scientific establishment of rural land consolidation planning. Taking Wuhua County of Guangdong Province as an example, administrative villages as units, theoretical potential that calculated by the per capita construction land use standard method is modified into real potential by correction model including natural environment, economic support ability and social factors; then it calculates the increasing arable land potential in accordance with the assessment of land suitability. The following results are obtained:firstly, the rural residential land area in Wuhua County in 2010 is 14463.04 hm2, mainly distributing in Hedong Town, Huacheng Town, Anliu Town, Hengpi Town and Longcun Town. Secondly, the theoretical potential of rural residential land consolidation in 2020 is 5683.91 hm2, and the villages with higher theoretical potential are gathering in the northern of Wuhua County. Finally, four type zones, including urban polymerization area, key village construction and grass-root village relocation area, ecological key village construction area and removal-merger construction area, came into being based on the comprehensive assessment values and relevant planning.
