Abstract:Being the location of Canton Fair, Pazhou has become of the symbol of the MICE industry of Guangzhou. Meanwhile, Pazhou Village, a village near the exhibition center, also accelerates it development with the booming of Canton Fair. This makes it a typical urban village benefiting from the MICE industry. However, few researches have explored the perception of community residents in urban village towards the economic impacts of the MICE industry as well as the changing process of these perceptions. Consequently, this paper takes community residents in Pazhou Village as an example, aiming to explore the social exchange relationship in this community, in the context of high-developing MICE industry in Guangzhou. Additionally, based on community residents' perceptions towards economic influence of MICE, this study helps decision makers and organizers to conduct the city planning and management. The findings of this study indicate that:①the city's MICE industry has become a significant variable in the study of community social exchange relationship; ② with the development of MICE industry, more and more outsiders flew into the village, which broke the original balance and stability of community social exchange relationship; ③ generally, the community residents in Pazhou Village hope to attract high-end consumers to their community. This study is an important supplement of previous studies and contributes to the future studies on residents' social identity, setting housing replacement policy and setting regulations to protect residents' rights and interests.
