Abstract:In order to improve the accuracy and reliability of the ecosystem services assessment and promote the future ecosystem services conservation and sustainability, the way and extent of ecosystem services contributed to the regional economy growth need to be understood. Therefore, in this article net primary production is used as a proxy for ecosystem services, Heilongjiang province is chosen as the empirical study area, and co-integration and error correction models are applied to reveal both the marketed and non-marketed contributions of ecosystem services to the regional economy growth. The results show that ecosystem services in Heilongjiang province had an obvious role in promoting the regional economy growth as one percent increasing in the output of net primary production increases the real GDP by 0.0257% during 1986-2010.Marginal price assessment based on the economic axiom that the price for a factor of production equals its marginal product could reveal the social cost and economic value of ecosystem services and aggregate the marginal price estimation of different scales at one consistent level. The internal relations between ecosystem services and regional economy growth and the marginal price of net primary production this article revealed have strong implication for the ecosystem services utilization and conservation, and provide strong evidence that sustainable management of ecosystem services could be very beneficial.
