Abstract This article makes an exploration on the basic theoretical problems of Urban planning from the viewpoints of philosophy and methodology. It puts forward two sources of urban planning theory:practice and hypothesis. And it makes an evaculation of the effect of urban planning theory and conceives a theoretical system.
