Abstract The city of Lian Yungang has atypical structure of "one city, two towns". This two cores-structure, composed of downtown and the port had three different constitutes in its history. They are Haizhou-Xinpu, Xinpu-Dapu, Xinpu-Lianyun. In view of the cause of formation, the evolution process of the relationship between port and city in Lian yun-gang is also the process of the port moving the east constantly. And the port moving the east is because of the coastline moving the east, namely Shu river delta continually. Based on the above analysis, the author thinks that the co re of the city of Lian Yungang will be the area of Xinhai in the coming days. So it is a correct policy to keep the area of Xinhai as the core of the city of Lian Yungang. In brief, the author regards that the deep analysis about evolution processor and formative mechanism of the two-core structure of the Lian Yungang city not only contribute to the study of the evolution stream of civil spatial structure in the future, but also provide a typical example that study the mechanism of the two-core model.
